Oh, The Horrid Tragedy

Tune of: Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me (Toplady); Thomas Hastings, 1784-1872
Mark 9:44, 48; Rev. 20:10, 15

Oh, the horrid tragedy, when the sinner disbelieves.
Where the worm their never dies, Where the fire; they burn alive.
God of wrath is justified, where the sinner longs to die.

End of mercy, end of grace; there the soul no longer taste,
Who rejected cornerstone, Jesus Christ, who died alone.
Place of sin, the horrid curse, they will suffer timeless thirst.

There a final Devil's hell, where the gospel won't expel.
Where the smoke shall rise in praise of the goodness God has made.
If the sinner now could see, untold future misery.

Will you turn from unbelief; will you die a wretched thief?
Come to Jesus and be saved, do not go to Satan's grave.
At the cross Christ died for sin; rose from death, thy soul to win.

The Lord is My Help

Original tune: Whiter than Snow (fischer); William G. Fischer, 1835-1912.
Hebrews 13:5-6

The Lord is my help, I will not be afraid.
When tempted to fear, I will call on his name.
What comfort in knowing His word is for sure.
He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you."

Chorus:
Never to fear; my Lord, He is near.
He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you."

I boldly believe his assurance to me.
No matter the trial, Holy Spirit in me.
What blessed Trinity has regarded my need.
He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you."

Chorus:

When death draws me home, I will be face to face.
For certain I rise, ever boast of his grace.
By faith all who enter find rest for the soul.
He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you."

Jesus Loved my Heart Wide Open

Original tune: Jesus! What a Friend of Sinners; Rowland H. Richard, 1811-1887.
Deuteronomy 7:8; Ps. 110:4

Jesus loved my heart wide open
His own kindness rescued me.
He came near to give salvation
His free gift; I now receive.

Chorus: How he loves me, how consuming
His free grace; my heart is free
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Keeper of his oath to me.

Jesus loved my heart wide open
For his pow’r has healed my soul.
Once my heart was cold and wanton
Darkness covered my poor soul.

Chorus:

Life has come, Thy mercy found me
Clothed me in the lamb’s pure wool
Gave me hope where death consumed me
Washed me in the Savior’s blood.

Chorus:

Worship Christ; all new born sinners,
Praise him for his wondrous love.
Tell of how his kindness found you
By the triune grace above.

That is when you loved me

Original tune: Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart (Marion); Arthur H. Messiter, 1834-1916
Matthew 25:34-40

When did we see you poor and when did you have need?
When I was weak and penniless, you came and rescued me.
Well done, well done! That is when you loved me.

When did we see you thirst and hungry for some bread?
When I was knocking at your door, my soul and mouth you fed.
Well done, well done! That is when you loved me.

When did we see you sick or prison’d for a crime?
When I was lonely and in pain, you gave unwasted time.
Well done, well done! That is when you loved me.

When did we see you hurt, rejected and afraid?
When I was orphaned by my own; a name and home you gave.
Well done, well done! That is when you loved me.

When did we hold your hand and touch your face in love?
When I was born and became old, I watched you from above.
Well done, well done! That is when you loved me.

For God So Loved

Original Music: Not What My Hands Have Done (Leominster); George Walter Martin, 1828-1881.
John 3:16

For God so loved the world He gave his only son
That whosoever trust in Him, He would make them his sons.
No condemnation known for sinners who repent,
Who look to Christ for saving grace; who die to self-intent.

For God so loved His name, He would not be denied
Yet all have fled and gone astray, His truth men crucify.
What men intend for ill, Christ overcame in death
And raised to demonstrate his pow’r, to show his righteousness.

For God so loved the Church, He would secure her fate
He loved her long before the world, Salvation full awaits.
No greater love is known for sinners now called, “friends”
Who live to tell what Christ has done; who strive to love all men.

Come Away

Original tune: Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross; William H. Doane, 1832-1915.
Song of Solomon

Come away with me my bride; I love you forever.
Let me see your face and find, mercy reigns from heaven.

Chorus: Come away, come away, join redemption’s story.
To the lamb who sits enthroned; God’s own king of glory.

Hear the call of grace abound, sweetly sound; repentance.
Rise and come away to Christ; He absolves our sentence.

Chorus:

Christ the lily of the vale; He, the Rose of Sharon.
Bids me come and breathe new life, sin has left me barren.

Chorus:

Here He comes with sword on high, beautiful my treasure.
Setting captives free who call on his name; God’s pleasure.

Chorus:

Walk with me my wayward bride, though the path seem unsafe
Trust my love, my Spirit’s work; all who come must have faith.

Chorus:

We Give Thanks to Our God

Original tune: How Firm a Foundation; Joseph Funk’s Genuine Church Music, 1832
Psalm 75:1

We give thanks to our God
Who from wrath he hath saved
We give thanks for his grace
We from sin who wert slaves.

I’ll sing praises loud, I will not be ashamed
How the mercy of God has become sinner’s fame.

We give thanks to our God
In our trials we rejoice
For the weight of true joy
Was the Savior’s glad choice

I’ll sing of the cross, what the Savior endured
For my shame is redeemed and now hope is secured

We give thanks to our God
For his wisdom and might
Who became sin for us;
His own blood is my right.

I’ll sing for my soul has been sealed by his love
For my name has been signed in the lamb’s book above.

Just a Sinner Saved by Grace

Original Tune: Just a closer walk with Thee; Anonymous

Thy law chased and found me in
Guilt and shame, all did offend
Adding sin upon my sin
No one good, O Lord, none but thee.

Chorus:
Just a sinner saved by grace
Jesus, Lord who took my place
He, who died for righteous sake,
Gives new life, my sin I now forsake.

Thy grace came and found me so
Lost in unbelief’s control
Hated love I did not know
Yet you save, you saved a wretched foe

Chorus:

When I’m weary from the fight
Jesus leads, thy Spirit’s might
Joy in suffering through this night,
Strength to walk by faith, not by sight.

Chorus:

When this race is finally won
Death will hold not a one
All sheep given to the Son
Hear the voice of Father say, “well done.”
